Spiritual Review of "Aeon Flux"
Ramesh C. Reddy "Aeon Flux" (2005)
http://www.imdb.com
Main Cast: Plot Synopsis: AeonFlux is an exciting futuristic thriller where there is peace until people start questioning their existence. Once that happens, there are killings to stop a secret experiment. With all that happening a rebellion rises to defend the oppressed. One of the rebels is Aeon (played by Charlize Theron) who is sent by her handler to assassinate the leader of new government, Trevor Goodchild (played by Martin Csokas). As Aeon plans her assassination things get more complicated than she can imagine. Content Review: It is rated PG-13 for violence and brief sexual content. It is a must see thriller that addresses issues such as free will, cloning, betrayal, and the power of love. Spiritual Insights: My favorite part has been when Aeon makes a statement regarding life and death. She wants Trevor to know that the realization that we are all going to die is what makes life worth living and the capacity to live it out to our best. Bible verses that come to mind watching the movie If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? (Proverbs 24:12, NIV) “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13, NIV) "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. (Matthew 10:21, NIV) “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:27-28, NIV) “Show me, O LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath. (Psalm 39:4-5, NIV) “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13, NIV) Questions to Ponder: Can you figure out where these Bible verses fit in the movie? Why do they fit there? Will you be willing to give up your free will for a society of peace? Why or why not? What makes you live your life to the full, knowing that you are going to die at some time or knowing you will live forever? Would the Lord Jesus want human beings to be cloned over and over again? Why or why not? What is sacrifice to you? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for someone else? How did it make you feel? Why do you think you felt that way? |
