Where does Kerry really stand on Iraq? Do I really know?
It does not help for someone else to speak on behalf of Kerry for me to
know his position unless Kerry himself speaks about the issue.
I had been hearing how people were saying Kerry is a
flip-flopper. I cannot think of Kerry as a flip-flopper unless I see
evidence to the contrary. Everyone is supposed to be presumed innocent
until proven guilty. That goes to our presidential candidates too.
His friends and crew mates have defended his Vietnam record
but that was years ago. Then, we have an ad by 'Swift Veterans for
Truth', who have spoken against Kerry. Who should I believe? Then again,
Vietnam should not even be a campaign issue but it is because Kerry
keeps talking about it. Now it begets the question, is Kerry is unfit
for Commander-in-Chief?
Talking about Vietnam is important to Kerry but what is
important for me is our presidential candidates’ consistent stance on
issues including 'War in Iraq'. I want to know if candidates for
president can be trusted with what they have stood for no matter what
political pressure is around them rather than saying things or believing
things that will give them more votes.
If politics is about saying to people what they want to hear
but not actually believing what is being said without having a
consistent strong position on an issue, I am scared for that candidate
to be my president. You never know what hour, minute, or second that
person will change their mind on an issue. I could vote for a candidate
because of what they said one day but to my dismay that person may not
have the same view the next day.
Would you feel comfortable giving your vote to someone
you cannot trust or do not really know where they stand?
The ‘War on Iraq’ and 'National Security' are crucial
issues for me after the controversial issues of abortion and gay
marriage. I want to be able to trust the candidates who are running for
president. Without trust of the populace, a presidential candidate will
be seen as a puppet whose actions are not governed by his own strong
beliefs but by puppeteers or special interest groups to whom they always
say what they want to hear.
I have not heard that Pres. Bush has flip-flopped on any
issue but have been hearing news accounts of Kerry’s 180 degree turn
when it comes to Iraq. I wanted to hear his own words whether to believe
or not if he is a flip-flopper. So, I decided to watch 739 seconds of
footage of John Kerry on Iraq.
As I watched it, I could not keep my eyes away from the
documentary and my ears away from Kerry’s words. It was a very powerful
documentary on his stance on Iraq using his own words and gestures. You
