“Light
Amplifies Messiah’s Presence! (L.A.M.P)”
SCRIPTURE:
“He said to them, "Do you
bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don't you put
it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and
whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If
anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." (Mark 4:21-23, NIV)
Observations:
I asked myself who Jesus was speaking to?
I asked
myself what does Jesus do?
“Do you bring in a lamp
to put it under a bowl or
a bed?
“Instead, don’t you put
it on its stand?” Jesus then makes three
declarative statements:
For whatever is hidden
is meant to be disclosed,
And whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.
If
anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." Jesus tells them all this right
after telling them about the Parable of the Sower that ends with good
soil.
Interpretation:
I asked
myself what is the function of light?
I asked myself what does the analogy have to do with the disciples?
"You are
the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do
people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its
stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let
your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16, NIV) This can only happen if their
lives are bearing good fruit and are not hidden from others like a lamp being hidden under a bowl
or bed. If that happens, the lamp becomes no good. It needs to be on a
stand. Jesus wants the disciples to take a stand.
Implications:
"For you are the
Fountain of Life; our light is from your Light" (Psalm 36:9, TLB)
Jesus said, "I AM the
Light of the world. If you follow me, you won't be stumbling through
the darkness but living Light will flood your path!" (John 8:12)
I ask you now dear friend what kind of
L.A.M.P are you? However, if we are not careful
in our Christian walk and move away from the good soil, we can be a lamp
that is hidden in the darkness of this world. When a lamp is hidden
under a bowl or bed it does not give the light that comes from it being
on a stand and turned on. This is an important concept for
the disciples and us to think about. We cannot be hiding our light but
need to let it glow for all to see that the Lord maybe glorified through
our actions. In other words, I also believe
this addresses compartmentalization. We should not be compartmentalizing
our Christian life where we come of as Christians with our Christian
friends but when we hang out with our pre-Christian friends, our
Christian faith or the mention of Jesus does not even come into the
picture. It should not be that way. I believe through the Parable of the
four soils, Jesus was making this point too! I loved how
Elder Calvin shared in one of his sermons
on the Book of Esther how he did not hide being a follower of Christ in
one of his jobs because he wanted to be a light to those around him. By
opening up, he motivated others to open up too. Jesus is the Light of the world
and it should be a honor for us to want others to see Jesus in us. There
is a time for everything and God looks at our motives. He wants us to be
a glowing lamp as we draw our Light from Him!
We can because Jesus promises it
to us as I am reminded of John 8:12: May you rest in the Light of the
Lord's favor this day knowing He will be our Light! May we become the
best lamp for others as God's Word becomes our lamp! Amen!
We can do that because of the price paid by Jesus for our Salvation.
When we were living in darkness with no hope, Christ shined in the
darkness and the darkness could not extinguish it.
"In Him was life, and that life was the Light of all mankind. The
Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
(John 1:5, NIV)
"The True Light that gives Light to everyone was coming into the
world." (John 1:9, NIV)
"To all who received Him, He gave them right to
become children of God, children not born of natural descent but by the
will of God." (John 1:12, NIV)
So friend you can come to Jesus for He has paid the price to set you
free so that you can live a victorious life through Him. That is
exciting to know! Be the light He will help you be in a world of
darkness! May others see your light as you follow the Light of the world
knowing Light amplifies Messiah's presence!

Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
You are my all in
all. You are my Prince of Peace, Rock, Savior, and Friend. You are my
Holy Father guiding me through to live a life of righteousness, holy
righteousness. Oh God, I need you more than ever. I need to feel your
hands around me holding me tight. I need your love to surround me so
that you can glow in my life. Help me please Jesus. I desire in your
presence. Thank you for guiding me to live a life of righteousness. Oh
God you love me more than ever. You hear my voice when I cry out to you.
When I seek your face, you fill me up. You are my all in all. Thank you
Jesus so much for your help no matter what I face, your grace is
available and you take my case. Thank you for hearing us and answering
us. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! AMEN! (Most of the prayer is from a
vineyard song called “All in All”)
"May my spoken words and
unspoken thoughts be pleasing even to you, O Lord my Rock and my
Redeemer." (Psalm 19:14) May the Lord Jesus guide you in His love leading you! Amen! No matter what you feel in your heart, know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel of John or Gospel of Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help by His grace alone!
