Editors Note: This is an impressions
piece on Greek Life!
Last
month, Greek Life had their rush event to entice students to join their
Greek organization whether it was a sorority or fraternity. Most of the
sororities on campus are located in Amos Hall with each floor filled
with their sororities’ fame, fun, and fortune whether it is winning
Homecoming Queen, Greek goddess, Greek Week, etc.
I had
the opportunity to chat with Mistica Labrasca, the president of Chi
Omega and Lisa Nichols, the president of Delta Zeta. They shared with me
how they intended to lure prospective pledges into their sororities.
As
‘Meet the Greeks’ occurred inside the William Pitt Union to introduce
students to the Greek System, there were pledges excited to join the
sororities. I had the opportunity to report on their excitement, waiting
to go into Amos Hall, during bid night few days later.
There
is a stereotype out there that sororities and fraternities are mostly
known for drinking, getting drunk, partying, etc, this is not what
sororities and fraternities should be remembered for. There are many
Greek life students that are involved in many philanthropic activities
which I am a huge fan off! Also, not everyone involved in Greek Life
participates in negative things.
My
advice is stay away from the bad influential things and stick with the
good things of Greek Life! I personally do not support drinking, getting
drunk, partying, etc because of my faith in Jesus Christ and because in
the long run it is not good for the students.
However, I am all about fundraising and charity events that raise money
for a good cause! I am also all about community where each sister or
brother helps each other out and takes care of each of their needs!
There are many fun events and contests students can be part of such as
Greek Sing, Greek Week, Student Government Board, etc without getting
into trouble!
