“Henien Hopes to Help Honorably Regarding Resolution 1.1"
Ramesh
C.Reddy Student Government Board (SGB) president Shady Henien sent out a letter to all the recognized student organizations regarding SGB Resolution 1.1. In the letter, Henien expresses his desire to help out all organizations on campus to receive adequate funding. Pittsburgh Standard believes this is a noble cause that Henien and his board are tackling. The board could have voted on Resolution 1.1 last week at its public meeting on Tue, Feb 06, but it was tabled so all student organizations voice and input could be heard this coming Tues, Feb 13 at 8:45 p.m. in the SGB room at the William Pitt Union. The board did not have to table this Resolution 1.1 but they did it for each organization’s sake. Henien wants each organization that has concerns about this Resolution 1.1 to express their concerns in the next public meeting. What follows is a letter to all student organizations by Henien:
Dear President or Business Manager: In preparation for the 2007-2008 budgeting process to take place this semester, I am writing to inform you that Student Government Board is currently deliberating over Resolution 1.1 regarding allocations policies.
The following seven (7) recommendations have been discussed in public
forum this past Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Student Government
Board public meeting and was tabled until the next public meeting which
is scheduled for next Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 8:45 pm in William
Pitt Union, room 639. I urge you to read these 7 recommendations and
voice your concerns to the Board as well as in public forum next week.
The following groups have been exempted from the SGB allocations policies enumerated below for all certified undergraduate student organizations eligible for funding: the recognized undergraduate school governments, SGB, ESC, CBSC and NSA, and the Student Affairs Affiliated Student Organizations, IFC, PHC, NPHC, BAS, ASA, and RSA. The SGB allocation policies are enumerated below for all other certified undergraduate student organizations eligible for funding. Policies Regarding the Allocations of Student Activity Fees to Non- Exempt Certified Student Organizations 1. The total funding an organization may receive for a program cannot exceed $5,000 (previously $2,000). Funding for collaboration between organizations will be granted only if another organization(s) add new and worthy dimensions to the program. The Student Government Board will maintain the authority to fund programs greater than $5,000, if deemed necessary. 2. Competitive sports clubs may not receive more than $5,000 in support per fiscal year for all aspects of participating in competition, which does not include equipment (previously $2,000). 3. An organization is limited to requesting funding for conferences during the fiscal year to a total of $2,000. The funds approved for a conference may be redistributed to send as many delegates which do not exceed the $2,000 allotment on conferences per fiscal year. One delegate may not exceed more than $750 per conference. 4. Expenses related to hosting conferences for external organizations will not be funded (previous policy). 5. Expenses related to recognition programs and awards will not be funded (previous policy). 6. Off-campus leadership retreats will not be funded (previous policy). 7. Social events will not be funded (previous policy). Sincerely, Shady Henien President, Student Government Board 2007 |
