SCRIPTURE:
“For the time will come
when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit
their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of
teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." (2 Timothy
4:3, NIV)
Observations:
I asked
myself what 3 warnings do we need to be aware of from God's Word?
I love how God's Word gives us 3 warnings
for our time in the 21st century: 1.
For the time will come when
people will not put up with sound doctrine. 2.
For the time will
come when people will do things to suit their own desires.
3. For the time will come when people
will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their
itching ears want to hear.
Today, I decided to look at warning 1.
I asked myself what does it mean
'people will not put up with sound doctrine'?
The time will come when people will believe
in all kinds of false doctrines such as
Atheism - The philosophical position that denies
the existence of God.
This is in opposition to sound doctrine
that states 'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God
and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him
all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been
made. ..." (John 1:1-3, NIV)
Darwinism - The
theory of evolution that states 'the mechanism for evolutionary
development is made up of chance variations and natural selection
involving competitition for survival and reproduction.'
This is in opposition to sound doctrine
that states, "So God created mankind
in His own image, in the image of God, He created them; male and
female He created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be
fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it...God
saw all that He had made, and it was very good." (Genesis 1:27-28a,
31a) Deism - 'The belief that God
created the world but is not sustaining it providentially. In other
words, though God exists, he has no interaction with the created
world.'
This is in opposition to sound doctrine that states,
'He is before all things and in Him all
things hold together.' (Colossians 1:17)
and "He was in the world,
and though the world was made through him, the world
did not recognize him. He
came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet
to all who did receive him, to those who believed in
his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children
born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s
will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling
among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one
and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and
truth." (John 1:10-14, NIV)
Egosim - 'The theory that humans do or
should seek only their own individual happiness.'
This is in opposition to sound doctrine
that states, "Do nothing out of
selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others
above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you
to the interests of the others." (Philippians 2:3-4, NIV)
Fatalism - 'The view that whatever happens
does so neccessarily and that therefore human choice and effort make
no difference.'
This is in opposition to sound doctrine
that states, "And the Lord God
commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." (Genesis
2:16-17, NIV) and
"You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not
use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another in
love." (Galatians 5:13, NIV)
Liberalism - 'Modifying Christianity so as
to make it consistent with modern culture and science. It rejects
the traditional view of Scripture as an authoritative propositional
revelation from God in favor of a view that sees revelation as a
record of thew evolving religious experiences of humankind.'
This is in strong opposition to sound
doctrine that states, "All Scripture
is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV)
and "For the Word of God is alive and
active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to
dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts
and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)
Naturalism - 'The philosophical theory
that nature is all that exists [and] typically deny the existence of
God, angels, and demons and are skeptical of the possibility of life
after death.'
This is in opposition to sound doctrine
that states, "No, in all these things
we are more than conquerors through him who loved us, For I am
convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height
nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 8:37-39, NIV)
Pelagianism - The view that human will has
not been totally ruined by original sin and that it is therefore
possible for humans to achieve moral sanctity by human effort.
This is in strong opposition to sound
doctrine that states, "There is no one
righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is
no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together
become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their
throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison
of vipers is on their lips. Their mouth are full of cursing and
bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark
their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear
of God before their eyes." (Romans 3:10-18, NIV)
and "But God demonstrates His own love
for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
(Romans 5:8, NIV) and
"For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith -- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's
handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:8-10, NIV)
Polytheism - Belief in and veneratiuon of
more than one god or divine being.
This is in strong opposition to sound
doctrine that states, "You shall have
no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in
the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in
the waters below. You shall not bow to them or worship them; for I,
the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the
sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who
hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who
love me and keep my commandments." (Exodus 20:3-4, NIV)
and "Jesus answered, 'I AM the Way,
the Truth, and the Life.' No one comes to the Father except through
me." (John 14:6, NIV)
Universalism - 'The belief that all
persons will eventually be saved and thus no one will be eternally
lost.'
This is in strong opposition to sound
doctrine that states, "Salvation is
found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given
to mankind by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12, NIV)
and "For God so loved the world that
He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the
world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
Whoever believes in Him is no condemened, but whoever does not
believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in
the name of God's one and only Son." (John 3:16-18, NIV)
The source for the false doctrines is
'Pocket Dictionary of Apologetics & Philosophy of Religion' by C.
Stephen Evans.
The source for sound doctrine is the Word of
God, the Bible using the New International Version.
Implications:
I saw important implications for my own life. I should be very
careful not to follow false doctrines because they will war against
my soul. I need to take the warning from God's Word seriously and
avoid the false doctrines mentioned above. These are only some of
the false doctrines for there are many. Instead, I need to hold on
to sound doctrine found in Scripture and live it out and teach it
when the Lord wants me to do so as the Word of God states,
"You, however, must teach what is appropriate
to sound doctrine." (Titus 2:1, NIV)
and "He must hold firmly to the
trustworthy message as it has been taught so that he can encourage
others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it." (Titus
1:9, NIV)
I ask you now dear friend, what
D.O.C.T.R.I.N.E will you live by?
Dear friend, there is a lot of doctrine out there but you need to
ask yourself if that doctrine is sound doctrine. For we have only
two choices to live by whether it is living by false doctrine or
sound doctrine. The Lord loves you so much and wants you to live by
sound doctrine. You can friend with the help of the Lord Jesus. He
has given you all the tools in His Word of God, the Bible to follow
sound doctrine. For the Word of God is the Pittsburgh Standard for
living, the Pennsylvania Standard for living, for the U.S Standard
for living, for the North American Standard for living, the World's
Standard for living, and the Universeral Standard for living. You
and I have the awesome blessing of having God's Word to give us
sound doctrine to live by.
May you know Deliverer offers complete
Truth realistically inspiring now everyday!
