Backyard Brawl gives the Mountaineers losing score

The trip down and back took longer than the game was played, but for the dedicated Pitt fans, the trek to Morgantown was well worth it.  The Pittsburgh Panthers (12-1), at the time annihilated the West Virginia Mountaineers (9-5), 80-61 on a Tuesday night.

The game was close in the first half, with the Mountaineers only trailing or ahead by three points or less.  With the first half full of lead changes, the Panthers took control of the game when Brandin Knight hit a long-range 3 point dagger going into halftime, giving Pitt the lead of 40-28 and breaking the spirit of the Mountaineer team.

In the second half, the game only continued to get better as several players scored in the double figures. Donatas Zavackas led the team with 16 points, going 4-4 from behind the arc, while Brandin Knight showed the league what a true point-guard is with 8 assists.

With less than ten minutes left in the game, Mountaineer "fans" began to stream out of the Coliseum amid echoes of "Start your Tractors” chanted by the Oakland ZOO.  The final minutes of the game were played in a half empty Coliseum, with mostly Pitt fans still surrounding the area.  Pitt showed what an outstanding team with gifted players could do.  It was definitely obvious to see who the true fans were and who the most talented team of the evening was.
