SCRIPTURE:
“Calling the
Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over
evil spirits.” (Mark 6:7, NIV)
Observations:
I asked myself what Jesus did?
-
Calling the Twelve to
Him, He sent them out two by two.
-
He gave them authority
over evil spirits.
Observation:
I asked
myself what role Jesus plays in the lives of the disciples?
-
Jesus
called the Twelve to Him.
-
Jesus
sent them out two by two.
-
Jesus
gave them authority over evil spirits.
Interpretation:
I asked
myself what is the significance of what has happened?
Jesus is the focal point and in
charge of the disciples roles. Jesus is the One who calls, sends, and
gives. The disciples did not choose to go on their own until they were
called. Jesus calls them first. So, the calling began with Jesus. Jesus
initiated the calling of the disciples. Jesus does not stop there though
but goes a step further.
After they were called Jesus sends them out but not individually as 12
but as six teams. Jesus sent them out two by two. This is significant because Jesus wanted them to
build each other up if one falls. It was a support group for each other
rather than handling the mission as a lone ranger. Jesus was emphasizing
the importance of holding each other accountable. Most of all Jesus
emphasized that He is the One that sends. Jesus does not stop there
though but goes a step further.
Jesus gave them authority over evil spirits. The disciples saw Jesus
cast out demons. Now, as Jesus calls them and sends them two by two,
Jesus gives them the authority to cast down evil spirits. This is so
significant because when Jesus called
and sent, He also provided His power in their lives according to what
Jesus felt they needed at the time.
It is also significant because of
all the authority Jesus could have given them, Jesus focused on giving
them authority over evil spirits. Jesus was emphasizing to them the
danger of evil spirits and what they do in people’s lives. They would
have known that too because they saw what happened to the
demon-possessed man until Jesus healed him especially in Mark 5.
I believe the three things Jesus
did for the 12 disciples are based on the 3’E’s.
Jesus EQUIPPED them when He
called them to Him. They were already learning from Jesus as they saw
Jesus in action. They were also being built up already. They saw Jesus
heal demon-possessed people, a leper, a woman bleeding for 12 years,
raising Jairus daughter from the dead, a paralytic, Peter’s
mother-in-law, all the sick that were brought to Him, teach with wisdom,
heal, and even calm the storm. It was not like Jesus called them out of
the blue. They already had experience being with Jesus. Now Jesus gives
them an assignment. Jesus does not stop after equipping them but goes a
step further.
Jesus ENABLES them when He sends
them out two by two. Jesus gives them the capability to accomplish where
He is sending them. Jesus reminds them that they have one another to
help each other out. Jesus does not stop there after enabling them but
goes a step further.
Jesus EMPOWERS them when He
gives them authority over evil spirits. Jesus gives them power they had
not before to accomplish His mission and not their own. This is exciting
to know when Jesus calls, sends, and gives it is because He did the
choosing.
Implications:
I saw important implications in
my own life. When Jesus calls me to something, sends me to accomplish
that mission, He will also give me the authority. I cannot be doing
God’s mission on my own but need to take the help that is provided.
Doing missionary work or any mission the Lord sends us out is rarely a
lone-ranger job. Whatever Jesus did, He set examples for us. I need to
seek the Lord in prayer and ask Him for His help and the laborers to
help accomplish the mission He has me on. I believe He is the One that
equips, enables, and empowers me. If it is His calling in my life, He
will work out the details and also help me work through the obstacles that come in the way!
Thank you Jesus!
I ask you now dear friend, who are you sent by
to where?
Dear friend, as we seek the Lord in prayer wanting His will for our
lives, He will send us to places. For some it could be to make a
difference working in Mercy Ministry such as helping the
Burmese/Nepalese/Buthanese/Somalian refugees, for others to make a
difference in academia or careers, for others to make a difference in
relationships especially between GOD and MAN but also among each other.
Wherever you feel the Lord has sent you, there is a reason for it
friend. Yes, there is.
Just yesterday, Fri, Jan 23, 2009, the Lord Jesus equipped, enabled,
and empowered Living Acts Cell Group of Oakland International Fellowship
to go and reach out to Burmese/Nepalese/Bhutanese refugees at Calvary
Chapel Church to show them the mighty love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We were able to reach out to them not on our own strength or ability
but by the Lord Jesus working in us and through us through the help He
already planned and provided for us. It started with seeking the Lord in
prayer for His power. It was a successful time and excited time.
We were glad that the Lord Jesus put it upon few of the leaders
hearts from our church and Calvary Chapel to engage in this ministry. It
is the Lord Jesus' grace that has helped us to ENGAGE the community in
all its ethnicity with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by EQUIPPING,
ENABLING, and EMPOWERING us.
No matter who we are or where we are, if we are a follower of Jesus
Christ, He sends us to fulfill the Great Commission to go out into the
world, preaching the Gospel, making disciples and baptizing in the Name
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
This week you can have a wonderful opportunity to ENGAGE the
University of Pittsburgh campus in all its ethnic diversity with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ as you join InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF)
in their EXTREME HOPE OUTREACH that will be happening the entire week
starting today.
This Saturday afternoon, IVCF is having their training in the William
Pitt Union to do outreach to students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
*Extreme Hope Outreach Training:* Saturday Jan 24th 1-5pm, William
Pitt Union
*This training will help us prepare for sharing the gospel with Pitt
students, utilizing interactive displays (Proxe stations) to have
conversations at the Pitt students own pace. Also, it will give us
guidance on connecting interested students with follow-up GIGs. This
training will well prepare you for sharing at a Proxe station, so we ask
you to come in order to work a Proxe at Pitt. (This training will also
help prepare you for sharing with your friends.)*
We can take part in this training or where the Lord has called us
too. I myself will be on assignment covering the Pittsburgh Dance
Marathon sponsored by Greek Life to raise thousands of dollars to help
find a cure for cancer. It will be running from 11:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
starting today at the Fitzgerald Field House
We are sent because of what God did for us while we were yet sinners.
Friend, while we were yet sinners God sent Jesus into this world to
deliver us from the bondage of sin by allowing Him to go to the cross because He loves us so much. When we
believe in Jesus and what He accomplished, we will not perish but have
Everlasting Life.
Yes, friend, Jesus was called, was sent, and now gives Eternal life
to all who turn to Him. This Eternal Life is a free gift of grace for
us, because the price was paid by Jesus on a rugged cross, when He shed
His precious blood to provide the antidote for the world's deadliest
virus known as sin. Now, those that turn to Him and are covered by the
precious blood of
Jesus are cleansed of this sin and set free from it's bondage. Salvation
would not be possible if it were not for the death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. Jesus not only died for us but came back to life on the 3rd day
for us.
This is
exciting to know but we need to believe and receive what Jesus did for
us by taking action. The action is as simple as confessing & repenting
of our sin and acknowledging Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal
Savior who alone can save us.
We can do that friend because when man was totally depraved because
of the sin that engulfed them, Christ the Lord was sent into this world
to give light. A spark of light can give a society in darkness,
illumination. Jesus became our Light.
Jesus said, I am the Light of the world. If you
follow me, you will not stumble in darkness but the living light will
flood your path. (John 8:12)
Friend, Jesus went to the cross to provide that Light for you and me.
Jesus died for humanity to set them free by His grace. It is not
anything you and I do that merits our freedom for we have all sinned and
fallen short of the glory of God. There is nothing you and I could have
done to receive our freedom from sin if it were not for the love of God
who brought us freedom through Jesus Christ. But a gift when it is not
opened or used becomes useless.
The Lord Jesus has provided you and me the free gift of grace. We
have to now take that free gift of grace and be thankful for it
realizing it cost Jesus so much pain and agony on the cross just to
deliver it to us by His blood. It has now been delivered on the cross of
Calvary and we need to pick it up and allow God's grace to envelop us.
Once we do that, now as we belong to Him, we are ready to
be sent to do His works. But if we do not yield our life to the Savior
and ask Him to be our Lord,
then Satan will do the sending and use us for his dirty works. Either
way, we will be sent but not for the same purposes and mission.
When the Lord sends you
somewhere, you can be excited about it because He chose you. That alone
is exciting that He has called you for a purpose. Now, He will equip,
enable, and empower you to engage the area He has sent you to. He will provide the means as you depend on Him.
It does not matter where you are or where you have been. You will be
sent.
The
question is will you be sent by the Lord to do His work or will you be
sent by the devil to accomplish his evil deeds?
The Good News is as you seek the
Lord in prayer daily, meditating on His Word, and taking the help the
Lord provides from the community of believers, Jesus will be the One that
will be doing the sending. Once we lose our focus away from Jesus and
Jesus is not the focal point of our lives anymore, we endanger
ourselves.
Yes, we do
because we give Satan a foothold to use us to do his dirty work. It
should not be that way. Our flesh can send
us to places and make us do things that are not of the Lord. To combat
that let us WALK BY THE SPIRIT.
I want to be used of the Lord and know I have been sent by the Lord
to the places He has me in. If not, I want to leave that place and seek
where He wants me to be at. We all should aim for that as we seek Him.
What if we
are not sure if it is the Lord that is sending us or if it is being done
on our own?
Whatever you are called to and
feel sent to, test it with Scripture. The Word of God will reveal to you
what you should be doing as you seek the Lord in prayer. There will be
times we have to go out in faith, checking our motives and deeds with
the Lord. We can justify our every deed but God looks at our motives.
When we go out in faith and want to please Him, He will take care of the
rest.
May you know where you are sent
because only the Savior enters nurturing Truth! Amen!
“Savior
Enters Nurturing Truth!” (S.E.N.T)/”Who are you sent by to where?”
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you so much for calling the disciples to you, sending
them two by two, and giving them authority over evil spirits. This means
a lot Jesus. You are the One that equips us, enables us, and empowers us
to engage what you have called us for. So, please help us Lord whatever area
you have called us into. We need your help and thank you Lord for
emphasizing the importance of Christian community and not being a
lone-ranger in what is done. Jesus you could have done all the teaching
and healing but you set an example by equipping, enabling, and
empowering the disciples to do what you have started. Help us not to do
things just on our own but receive the help you give us and look for
others to help us. We want to be sent where you want us to go and be at.
Our flesh will have its own ideas but we desire to do your will Oh Lord
because we love you and know where you send us is where we should be
because you are the Author of our Life. So, Lord protect us from
Satan's ways and help us. We do know there will be
obstacles but when we fall, you will lift us up. We
thank you Jesus. Forgive us when we do things on our own. Help us to
seek you always. Help us to know what you want for our lives whether it
is in careers, academia, or relationships. We turn all situations over
to you and depend on you for help. We trust in you Lord and in the power
of your might. Help us Jesus please. Thank you for helping us. Thank you
Jesus for dying for our sin to forgive us and coming back to life to
save us! We acknowledge you as our Lord and Personal Savior. Please be
our Lord and Personal Savior! Thank you Jesus! We thank you Jesus, you
have heard our prayers and answered us! In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
Come to
Jesus as you are this New Year of 2009 and let Him be the Lord and
Savior of your life. No matter what happened all the other years let Him
restore you to new heights.
You do
not have to have all the answers to come to Him but can come to Him as
you are. Yes, you can friend! When I came to the Lord I did not have all
the answers I wanted to know but I came to the Lord in faith and through
the years He has never disappointed me. It has been 23 years that the
Lord Jesus has been in my life and I want Him to be part of my life till
I die and then that day see Him in Heaven face to face! That is exciting
friend, yes it is!
I still
have so much growing pains to go through but Jesus helps me through it
all as I turn to Him.
May you
come to know the Lord Jesus as your Lord and Personal Savior and find
your identity in Jesus Christ alone. May you rest in Him and Him alone
walking with Him this New Year of 2009.
If you
would like to invite Jesus Christ into your heart and make Him a daily
part of your life, you can this very moment. You will never be alone.
You can claim God's promises for you in the Bible and see them come
true, before your eyes, in His wonderful timing. You don't have to wait
for a special time to come to the Lord. You can come right now as you
pray this prayer, meaning it in your heart.
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you so much that we are never out of your love.
No matter what is tormenting us, you are there for us. When there are
days we cannot get through and loneliness has gotten the best of us
because we are isolated in our torment and sin, you are still there.
Just as the demon-possessed man saw you, ran to you, and fell before you
for healing, we can come to you too. Thank you Jesus! You made yourself
available to the man with the evil spirit. Thank you Jesus for making
yourself available to us now when we call your Name for we are never out
of your love and never out of your reach. You Oh Lord know what we have
done; you know what we will do. You know what Satan will do to entice us
and torment us. We come to you Lord and ask you for your healing
presence in our lives. Take any addiction and torment that people face
and fill them with your power to live for you. We know you can do it
Jesus. Only you have the power to deliver us from any torment and find
peace in you. Thank you so much Jesus. We come to you now Jesus and ask
you to forgive us of all our sin. Deliver us Oh Lord and cleanse us with
your cleansing blood. We believe in you Jesus; we believe you are the
Son of God, we believe that you died and rose again; we believe you are
here right now standing in our presence with the power to heal now and
the grace to forgive. Help us Oh Lord as we turn this song “I Believe”
into a prayer to you Oh Lord. Thank you so much for coming into our
heart and making our heart your home as we ask you in. Take us in Oh
Lord and be our Lord and Personal Savior as you lead us and guide us.
Help us to help others as you help us! Thank you so much Jesus you are
in our heart making our heart your home. Thank you for living in us.
Thank you for being our Lord and Personal Savior! Thank you Jesus you
have heard our prayers and answered us! In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
No matter what you feel in your heart,
know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To
make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him
as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the
Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into
prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel
of John or Gospel of
Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord
show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to
help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches
the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our
crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help! But
beware of churches who do believe in the Word of God completely but
there is no freedom in Christ but legalism involved.
As a professional, it is not too late to join a
church! As a student, it is not too late to join a fellowship on campus this new year of 2009! May the Lord's presence and peace fill you with His
love now and forever! Amen!
Friend, if you have prayed this
prayer and meant it in your heart, you are a new creation in Christ and
all old things are passed away and everything has become new! You may
feel something or may not but don’t base it on feelings but base your
new life in Christ on the promises of our Savior who will never leave
you nor forsake you! Amen!
Spend time in His word and let the Lord
speak to you! Start out in the Gospel of John! You can also check out
the Gospel of Mark which are the devotionals I have been going through.
Learn from Jesus through study and prayer. Also find yourself a church
fellowship and a college fellowship you can be part of where you can be
part of a community of believers to supplement your own walk with the
Lord. Let it be a Bible-believing and Bible-breathing church! Believe in
Bible Live Eternally!
