PGSIS 2006 provided with Point State Park fireworks falling from the firmament!

By Ramesh C.Reddy
Pittsburgh Standard

Thursday, July 06, 2006

Thousands packed the Point State Park and surrounding areas in anticipation of the July 4th Independence day fireworks fall from the firmament. The shapes and sizes elicited expressions of awe. As the countdown to 9:38 p.m. began, patriotic music and patriotic attire drowned the park filled with adults and children on Independence Day.

The fireworks ended with a bang and a cannon shot in celebration of 230 years of independence.

A bystander commented, “Washington D.C has nothing on the Pittsburgh fireworks. They are the best.”

An entire bus was filled with mostly Pitt students who trekked from Oakland and surrounding community areas to see fireworks with their friends.

Not everyone got the opportunity to go enjoy the fireworks. About 100 students and their counselors from the Pennsylvania Governor’s School of International Studies (PGSIS) class of 2006 could not make it to Point State Park on that day and had to gaze their eyes on the sky hoping some will fall from the firmament in their view.

Point State Park to PGSIS 2006

Though you missed the July 4th fireworks

                                     The internet has its perks

Better than the indoors of Brackenridge Hall

Where you could not see all the fireworks fall

So, I prepared something for you all

You don’t have to worry whether you are small or tall

All you need is an internet connection through the wall

And www.pittsburghstandard.com call

There you will see, ‘Fireworks fall from the sky’

Click on that link whether you are a gal or guy

You will surprisingly find out why

You will see a small story there

About fireworks filling the air

And about patriotic dresses people wear

Then click on the video link if you have time to spare

Depending on the internet speed

You will eventually be taken to a fireworks feed

Until then be patient and assignments read

And always your counselors heed

Because in the right path, you they want to lead

And help you in what you need

Because of their authority and power

They are responsible for you each hour

You can watch with them, alone, or with your wing

As you also listen to the patriotic music people sing

But please don’t forget the curfew bell ring

As the fireworks you see

Wherever you maybe

May the Lord bless thee!

Watch the Point State Park to PGSIS 2006 Fireworks!
