Editors Note: The devotional has a background song which can be heard if you use Internet
Explorer.
SCRIPTURE:
"He
then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and
be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and
that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly
about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But when
Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind
me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the
things of men."(Mark 8:31-33, NIV)
OBSERVATION:
I asked myself what can I learn about Jesus from
this passage?
He then began to teach them after warning them not to tell anyone
about who He is. The teaching consisted of 6 things:
1. The Son of Man must suffer many things.
2. The Son of Man must be rejected by the elders.
3. The Son of Man must be rejected by the chief
priests.
4. The Son of Man must be rejected by the teachers
of the law.
5. The Son of Man must be killed.
6. The Son of Man will rise again after three
days.
7. Jesus spoke plainly about it.
INTERPRETATION: I asked myself the significance of Jesus
SHARING these things with the disciples?
Jesus SHARED these things with the disciples because Jesus wanted to be
open with them no matter how hard they take it. Jesus was not just about
SHARING the feel good things with His disciples but everything. Jesus
did not sugar coat anything but spoke plainly about it. Jesus wanted
them to know and be prepared what lies ahead for Him and them. Of course this
prompted Peter to take Jesus aside and rebuke him.
(To be
continued)
IMPLICATIONS: I saw important implications for my own life that when I
SHARE
about my life with others, I should not sugar coat it. Jesus was upfront
and spoke plainly about Himself and what is going to happen to Him. I
need to be upfront about my life with those I SHARE, with the focus
being on the things of God which I hope to dwell more closely some other
day. But, I need to also be aware of who I SHARE what with. Jesus only
SHARED this with His disciples because Jesus was selective in deciding
who to SHARE what with.
HOW GOSPEL GIVES ME
TESTIMONY REGARDING S.H.A.R.E:
When I was a staff of InterVarsity
Christian Fellowship, I loved to emphasize
I nvolved in other's lives
V aliantly SHARE
C ompassionately CARE
F ervently PRAY
I learned from Jesus that Jesus did
not just SHARE the feel good things but SHARED whatever is going on
in His life and what will happen to Him with a select few. I
was able to do the same when I was with IVCF small group community
and now LIVING ACTS community which is part of OIF. A
biblically based small group community, where you can SHARE with one
another, becomes very effective as it has been in my life. It starts
with finding that community that you can trust and be part of.
For me that community started with
IVCF and then POTTERS CLAY to LIVING ACTS where I could SHARE what's
going on in my life with those I could trust. There have been times
where I SHARED and the response has been, 'NOT YOU RAMESH' but even
so I have been LOVED, CARED, and PRAYED FOR. Even to this day, I
feel the connection with the members of POTTERS CLAY and LIVING ACTS
as I am part of LIVING ACTS cell group which is part of Oakland
International Fellowship.
Even at OIF, I want to SHARE, CARE,
AND PRAY for one another to stand in the GAP: Loving God, Loving
Another, Loving People everywhere.
O penly SHARE
I ntimately CARE
F ervently PRAY
Once we are in a community of
believers we can trust, they become our selective group that we can
SHARE almost anything with. When Jesus SHARED, it was because Jesus
had that selective community but more than that to set an example to
me and others. Jesus never was superficial with the disciples but
always at point even when they could not understand at the time.
Everything Jesus SHARED had a principle behind it that he wanted the
disciples to get. I learned when I SHARE, the Lord Jesus can use
that time to bring PRINCIPLES in my life that can help me through
His grace to be SANCTIFIED daily.
It has not been easy for me the past
few weeks especially towards the end of April and beginning of May
because of issues the Lord Jesus had me confront in my own life.
When I SHARED about COMPLAINING ATTITUDE, COVETOUS ATTITUDE,
CRITICAL ATTITUDE, DOUBTING ATTITUDE, and REBELLIOUS ATTITUDE with
members of LIVING ACTS, it was not easy but I have seen how the Lord
Jesus already used that SHARING time to make an impact in my life.
I have seen how SHARING my life with
others and what I had been going through brought God's HELP, HOPE,
and HEALING in my life in different occasions from the time my
beloved dad of 37 years went into cardiac arrest, to the time
he went to be with the Lord Jesus, to the time I needed desperate
help with my website, to the times I have faced failure and shame,
etc. SHARING led to PRAY and answers to PRAYER.
I believe when Jesus SHARED with His
disciples, it was so they can be ready and in prayer. If we look
back to the Garden of Gethsamene, prayer was the focus there.
In summary, the Gospel of Jesus Christ
taught me two things this morning from this passage:
SHARE not only the good things that are happening in my life but
especially the things that are painful and weaknesses of mine so
others can CARE and PRAY for me.
SHARE what is happening in my life with a trusted community of
believers.
When we SHARE, it gives others the
opportunities to CARE and PRAY for us.
I have been able to SHARE for the most
part my weaknesses and my strengths with those in the former POTTERS
CLAY cell group and the current LIVING ACTS cell group
I ask you now dear friend, what do you
SHARE with others?
Dear friend, Jesus SHARED things the disciples did not want to hear but
needed to hear. Jesus wanted to prepare the disciples of what was to
come. Jesus did not sugar coat anything and neither should we. We need
to be upfront with people what we SHARE about whether it has to do with
our own lives, the Gospel of Jesus, or even issues dealing with
politics, etc.
I love SHARING about my life
with others especially if it is good but if an area of my life is not
good or will not be good, I have a hesitancy to SHARE. If I know certain
things will not work out and it will be a negative outcome in my life, I
don't like to SHARE but have SHARED anyway with my mom, Pastor Hugo, and
Edwin. As stated before, I have also SHARED a lot with the LIVING ACTS
small group community. I thank the Lord so much for the people who
He has placed in my life.
We need to be open to SHARE
positive and negative things in our lives with our closest confidants.
Jesus SHARED them with His disciples who He hung out a lot with and
taught them. We need to find people in our lives that we can be
comfortable SHARING with and even when we are uncomfortable, we can know
they are the right people Lord placed in our lives to SHARE.
When SHARED, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not something to be taken lightly.
It saddens me when people tell me that they are a Christian and can live
their life now anyway they want to because Christ has already saved them
and they are going to Heaven. This is cheapening God's grace in our
lives and crucifying Christ all over again. When we give our lives to
Christ and acknowledge Him as our Savior, we need to also acknowledge
Him as our Lord. He cannot be our Savior without being our Lord first.
Lord to me means Master and
to whom our obedience is due. If I come to Jesus to be saved from my
sins but don't have a desire to give up my sins, there is a problem in my life.
When there is a desire to give up a sin but because of addictions, etc
it is hard to do that it is good to realize it is hard because then
instead of being SELF-DEPENDENT thinking we can do it on our own, we
will realize our helplessness before a GRACIOUS GOD who can help to
TRANSFORM US BY HIS GRACE.
Justification by Grace saves us but it
is Sanctification by Grace that helps us live victorious lives which
of course started with God's SAVING GRACE.
You nor I cannot do it on our own no
matter how much we SHARE with others without the intervention of
JESUS CHRIST in our lives. When we give our lives to Jesus, He will
take care of the rest as we yield to Him. Sanctification is a
process that I learned especially these past few months. Oh I
want to be perfect ASAP but Jesus wants me to totally depend on Him
and He wants you to do the same.
No, I cannot save myself for only Christ can save me through His grace.
But once I am saved, I should not be living my life however I want to. If I know something to be a
sin and look past it because I am already saved and don't ask the Lord
for help to change to overcome it, I have a issue with that in my own
life. I maybe saved but won't be living a victorious and abundant life
with the Master!
We all should not cheapen
grace by living our lives how we want to but live it in light of the
cross. When we mess up, we have
Christ our Lord and Savior to forgive us and make us clean restoring our
fellowship with Him but when we know we have sinned and messed up, we
need to take responsibility for it and approach God's throne of grace.
I want to do that always and we all need to do that.
We can boldly approach His throne of
grace and find help in time of need!
When we
know we have sinned, if we confess our sins to the
Lord, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
The focus is on Christ and not
ourselves. It is hard to see myself as a follower of Christ when I am
following my own heart's inclinations and desires. How am I different
than the world when I say I am saved but live like the world does. If I
live that way, I have a problem with myself. This is not to say I am
perfect for God knows the sins I commit but thanks be to God that I can
go to Him in repentance and receive His help.
There is now no condemnation to those
who are in Christ Jesus, for the power of the life giving Spirit has
freed me from the law of sin and death!
When we as followers of Christ acknowledge our sin and go to Christ in
repentance, we are still focusing on Christ and His grace has not been
cheapened. We will never save ourselves
by the good works we do apart from Christ. Good works without Christ
cannot save us. Good works with Christ in our lives shows the fruit of
Christ actually living in us. When we have Christ, the good
works we do now are a result of the Holy Spirit working in us and
through us. Now others see the fruit of Christ's work in our lives. This
starts with surrender to Christ.
May you SHARE with others that
Jesus alone saves by His precious cleansing blood shed on the cross so
that we can be saved by His grace. Once saved by His grace, may we live
a life that is fruitful and bears fruit only Christ can produce in our
lives through the Holy Spirit. When we do not see fruit in our lives may
we ask ourselves how much have we truly surrendered to the Lordship of
Christ or surrendered to our flesh's longings.
As Edwin reminded me, it is more
important to exhibit the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT in our lives than to
exhibit SPIRITUAL GIFTS. When we walk with Jesus, He will help us
bear the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT! Praise the Lord!
"SHARE Having Almighty Redeemer's Emancipation! (S.H.A.R.E)/"What do you S.H.A.R.E with others?"
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, please guide and lead us Oh Lord. Thank you for SHARING
openly with your disciples of what lied ahead in your life. You did that
to be open and also to make a main point to the disciples. Help us Oh
Lord to be open to SHARE with others and not cheapen the Salvation you
give us by the way we live our lives for ourselves instead of for you.
Help us to live our lives in a community of CARING, SHARING, and PRAYING
for one another. Thank you, you
saved us when we came to you and by your blood we have been redeemed.
Our good works cannot save us if it were not for your grace. Thanks for
your grace. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
May you experience the POWER OF
CHRIST'S RESURRECTION this day, and give Him the LOCKED areas of your
life too so you can experience His PEACE as you become an ACTOR in the
film called LIFE being directed by your DIRECTOR, JESUS CHRIST who comes
to give JOY and PEACE.
You
don't have to be locked away anymore for Christ is here to free you and
give you peace to live out your actions.
How do you look at GODISNOWHERE?
One of my pastors, Pastor Hugo SHARED this
example one Sunday at the
RESURRECTION DAY SERVICE in the combined worship service of Pittsburgh
Chinese Church-Oakland & Oakland International Fellowship:
If
you look at it as GOD IS NO WHERE, you will still be lost in your sin
and be in bondage locked away in your sins and problems finding no
peace.
But
as my pastor spoke to the congregation and spoke to me, I am here to
tell you that GOD IS NOW HERE.
Yes,
friend God is alive and wants to bring a transformation in your life
through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ for He paid the penalty on
the cross to rescue you and me and came back to life to save us and live
with us.
Yes,
friend that is exciting to know that we can experience HIS SAVING GRACE
& LIVING GRACE.
When
we mess up, we can go to Jesus with our shortcomings and He will forgive
us and RESTORE us to Him and we will find peace in Him.
"Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ
and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the
world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he
has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore
Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.
We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him
who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the
righteousness of God." (Colossians 5:17-21, NIV)
"For the wages
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord." (Romans 6:23, NIV)
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his
Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive
ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness." (1 John 1:7-9, NIV)
Friend, we need Jesus because we have been separated from God due to our
sin. Because of our sin, Jesus had to pay the price to become our bridge
so we can reach God now not of our own good works but because of the
finished work of Christ, the Lord on the cross.
"For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not
by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)
Come to Jesus as you are and pray this prayer to accept Jesus as your
Lord and Personal Savior. He will transform your life around! Praise the
Lord! You don't have to have all the answers! You can come as you are!
Prayer:
Jesus, I thank you for being the BREAD of Life. You are the Living BREAD
of my life. Thank you for coming from Heaven and giving your life for
the life of the world. You sacrificed yourself for humanity. Thank you
Lord when we eat of you symbolically making you part of our life,
digesting what you teach us by following you, we can be living
Eternally, and the fruit that comes will reflect and resemble your life.
I want that Father God. I want that Lord Jesus! I want that Holy Spirit!
I know of a lot of people who partake of Holy Communion where the BREAD
represents your body broken for their sin and the juice represents your
blood shed for their sin. When we partake of Holy Communion, we are
reminded that we are remembering you. I want to remember you always Lord
Jesus. But for me to remember you always, I need to know you and
acknowledge everything you said you are. So right now I acknowledge that
you are my Lord and Personal Savior who died and rose again to give me
life from sin. So right now, I come to you and say how sorry I am for my
sin and living a life on my own. I repent of my sin and ask you to
forgive me of my sin with your cleansing blood which I accept. Wash me
and I will be clean from this infection of sin. Come Lord Jesus and
please become part of my life as you live in me and I will live for you.
I thank you Jesus for coming into my heart and making my heart your
home. Thank you for living in me Jesus and I will live for you and serve
you the rest of the days of my life. I do need your Spirit to reside in
me and work in me and through me so I surrender all that I am and will
be to you. Whatever your will is for me, please give me the strength and
willingness to bear it and rejoice in you. Thank you so much Jesus. I
thank you Jesus for becoming my Lord and Personal Savior. I thank you
Jesus you have heard my prayer and have answered me. I thank you that I
am your child Oh God. I thank you for becoming my only Way to Eternal
Life. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
No matter what you feel in your heart,
know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To
make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him
as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the
Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into
prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel
of John or Gospel of
Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord
show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to
help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches
the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our
crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help! But
beware of churches who do believe in the Word of God completely but
there is no freedom in Christ but legalism involved.
As a professional, it is not too late to join a
church! As a student, it is not too late to join a fellowship on campus this new year of 2009! May the Lord's presence and peace fill you with His
love now and forever! Amen!
Friend, if you have prayed this
prayer and meant it in your heart, you are a new creation in Christ and
all old things are passed away and everything has become new! You may
feel something or may not but don’t base it on feelings but base your
new life in Christ on the promises of our Savior who will never leave
you nor forsake you! Amen!
Spend time in His word and let the Lord
speak to you! Start out in the Gospel of John! You can also check out
the Gospel of Mark which are the devotionals I have been going through.
Learn from Jesus through study and prayer. Also find yourself a church
fellowship and a college fellowship you can be part of where you can be
part of a community of believers to supplement your own walk with the
Lord. Let it be a Bible-believing and Bible-breathing church! Believe in
Bible Live Eternally!
