First Impressions: 'The Blindside' was such a touching movie that
it made me teary as I watched some of the touching scenes. It is one
movie that is worth owning and watching over and over again.
Recommendation: 'The Blindside'
receives ***** 5/5
Plot Synopsis: ‘The Blindside’ is the true story about a loving Southern
White family who becomes the legal guardian of a homeless African
American student and changes his life around to the point of him
becoming professional player for the Baltimore Ravens in 2009.
Plot Review: “The Blindside” is one of the most touching feel
good dramas that I have seen in a long, long time. What makes it
more special to watch is knowing that this is a true story of how a
loving White Christian family adopted Michael Oher, a homeless and
traumatized African American teenager and turned his life
around. It is one of the best written scripts that keep you glued to
every scene. It is a movie that can be watched over and over again.
Content Review: “Blindside” is rated PG-13 for very brief language,
drug use, sports related hits, brief sexuality, and slight violence.
It addresses issues such as taking care of the needy, what it means
to live a Christian life, what it means to proactively fight racism
and prejudice, what it means to be loved unconditionally, what
family means, what it means to protect one another, and chastity.
What I loved about the
movie: (SPOILER ALERT)
Spoiler Alert I:
I loved how a young coach reminded the admissions team at Wingate
Christian Academy to reflect on what it means to have Christian in
their name. I loved that moment.
It reminded me of Micah 6:8
which says,
“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And
what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
Spoiler Alert II:
I loved the slogan on the schools gate that said something to the
effect, “With men things are possible; But with God all things are
possible”.
For me that means there are still some impossible things for men to
accomplish but not with God.
This reminded me of Mark 10:27
which says, “Jesus looked at them and
said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are
possible with God."
Spoiler Alert III:
I loved how a White Christian family took in a young African
American student who was homeless and traumatized to live among them
making him part of their own family.
This reminded me of Matthew 25:37-40
which says
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord,
when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you
something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you
in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or
in prison and go to visit you?' “The King will reply, 'I tell you
the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers
of mine, you did for me.'
Spoiler Alert IV:
The Tuohy family lived out what it means to proactively fight racism
and prejudice when they were going against the tide.
This reminded me of Galatians 6:9
which says “Let us not become weary in
doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do
not give up.”
Spoiler Alert V:
When Michael was in an accident after receiving a new truck, his mom
comforted him, while he was in fear, telling him it was not his
fault. Michael had also put himself in arms way to protect his
younger brother.
This reminded me of 1 Corinthians
13:4-8a which says,
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not
envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.”
Spoiler Alert VI:
Family does not have to always be based on skin color or blood but
has to always be based on love and God's way!
This reminded me of Galatians 3:28,
it says, “There is neither Jew nor
Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in
Christ Jesus.”
Spoiler Alert VII:
I loved the prayer time at the dinner table thanking Father God for
everything and making sure the entire family ate dinner together.
This reminded me of
1 Thess 5:16-18
which says, "Be joyful always; pray
continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's
will for you in Christ Jesus."
Spoiler Alert VIII:
I loved how the mother told Michael if he got a girl pregnant out of
wedlock, she would personally come to the college and cut his *****
off. (I did not like the last phrase though. It was not a good
choice of words but the point about a mother's strong desire for her
son practicing abstinence and addressing the immorality of
premarital sex is made.
This reminded me of 1 Corinthians
6:18-20 which says,
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a
man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins
against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of
the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You
are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God
with your body.”
