“Police
Offer Lawfulness In Countries Everywhere!" (P.O.L.I.C.E)”

SCRIPTURE:
“For the policeman does not frighten
people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear
him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will
get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you
are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he
will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose.
Obey the laws, then for two reasons: first, to keep from being
punished, and second, just because you know you should. Obey the
government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no
government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who
refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and
punishment will follow. (Romans 13:3-5, 1-2, TLB)
Observations:
I asked myself what does the Bible tell
us about the policeman? 1.
For the policeman does not frighten people
who are doing right;
2.
But those doing evil will always fear him.
3.
So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the
laws and you will get along well.
4.
The policeman is sent by God to help you.
5.
But, if you are doing something wrong, of
course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished.
6.
The policeman is sent by God for the very
purpose of punishing criminals.
7.
Obey the laws, then for two reasons: first,
to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you
should.
Implications:
Wow! I stand corrected! As an
Evangelical Christian, because 'Black Lives Matter', I wanted the
police to be defunded just as I want abortion clinic providers to be
defunded. In both situations, it is Black lives that have been in
danger the most whether it is Black men and women by the police or
Black babies that are suffocated to death in the womb by abortion
providers. This is not to say that others are not affected by the
police or abortion industry.
Professor David Korman, who
taught me 'Law & Morality' and 'Criminal Law' will tell you that I
have always had an independent streak even if his entire class was
against what I believed. I always stood on the Bible, the Word of
God from Genesis to Revelation formulating my answers. It is when I
was reactive to situations without consulting the Lord, is when I
have made mistakes including promoting 'defunding the police'. Yet,
in my prayer time to the Lord Jesus, the Lord Jesus had to correct
me to let me know 'Defunding the Police' is not the answer. The Lord
showed me His Word in Romans 13:1-5 that there is a reason for
police to exist all across the world.
When God wants police to exist, who am I to want to defund
them!
Yet, the murder of George Floyd
will not go away at the hands of a policeman. The Word of God talks
about punishment but this was murder. I was troubled!
Then, it occurred to me that there will always be bad people
in a profession but we don't go around starting to defund those
professions.
For example, just because there have been priests who have
been accused of molesting children does not mean all priests are bad
and priests should be defunded or banned. That would be ridiculous
and stereotyping.
My Desi friends can tell you how much India struggles with
police corruption but they don't go around defunding all police
departments. Instead, the right officer rises up to tackle
corruption within the police. Go Singham and anti-corruption
movies!!! If they did defund, it would be ridiculous and
stereotyping.
Also, just because majority of terrorism in the world from
the Mumbai attacks to 9-11 attacks, etc have been done by those who
call themselves Muslims for the Jihad cause, we have not seen most
protestors/politicians calling for the ban of all Muslims. That
would be ridiculous and yet it is these same protestors/politicians
who are against banning Muslims who want to defund police
departments. Doing both is ridiculous and stereotyping.
Finally, just because COVID-19 virus originated from Wuhan,
the protestors/politicians don't ask for all Chinese to be banned.
If they did, that would be ridiculous and stereotyping. Yet, these
same protestors/politicians want police departments to be defunded
or dismantled.
Does that make any sense?
What about all the perpetrators who are responsible for the
molestations, killings or death?
They are the only ones that should be paying for the crimes
from convicted priests to, convicted police officers, to convicted
jihadists, etc.
It is totally wrong to use few bad people in a profession to
demonize the whole profession. When I thought about all this,
putting politics aside and what the Word of God says, I realized
God's Word stands the test of time. If God wanted police to exist
then He has His reasons. It is our job to weed out the bad ones.
Sadly, sometimes they slip by.
Should I be angry with the molesting priests, terrorists,
corrupt officers, patient zero, etc for causing pain?
Of course I should!
Should I want to take revenge?
In human nature, without the Lord's grace and mercy, the
depravity of man and his soul will only want revenge. Not only that
we start attributing one man/woman's sin to the whole race just as
we are doing to the police. We are not thinking straight. This
is what revenge and anger does! What we hate the most, we start
doing to others.
What the protestors/politicians have fought for, speaking
out against racial profiling and stereotyping, etc, these same
protestors/politicians are profiling/stereotyping all police
negatively for the actions of few.
How does it make you feel to be racially
profiled/stereotyped because of what someone else did from your own
race or profession?
It does not feel good, does it?
I speak from experience because people have assumed that I
am Muslim and Middle Eastern. When 9-11 happened, a black person
said to me, 'Your people did this!'. Years ago, a Black manager
asked me, 'Do you have a bomb in your bag?' During the Reagan
funeral procession, my book bag was the only one searched by Capitol
police. During a fire alarm in the Waterfront, Homestead/Munhall
police stopped me for 45 minutes because I was taking pictures even
though I was a reporter. In Squirrel Hill, city police stopped me
when a bomb squad was called because I was taking pictures. During
G-20 protests in Oakland, I was tear gassed and hit with batons by
police even though I was reporting. When I went to
Lexington, KY for an NCAA tournament, I was the one followed because
I had a book bag with me.
If anyone had reason to defund the police, it should have
been me but I don't want too!
My identity is found in Christ and I know to the best of
their ability police wanted to do what they did because they wanted
to serve and protect other citizens. Even if they had malicious
intent, that was not my place to call for defunding the police
because we affect the good officers too.
I am friends with some of the nicest Pitt Police officers.
It would not do justice to these officers to defund the police. It
would not do justice to the kindest student I have known
Elizabeth, whose husband
Michael is a police officer. Also, my
brother-in-law Paul is a wonderful
police officer.
A good white friend of mine told me that he was assumed to
be a white supremacist just because he was a white bald headed guy.
Certain people assumed 'all bald headed whites are neo-Nazi
skinheads and white supremacists'. Yet, he is the kindest and nicest
fellow I know who had adopted black children.
This is the territory we are treading into when we want to
defund the police stereotyping anyone and everyone. Instead, we
should be looking into God's Word!
I ask you now dear friend, how should
you handle police who have wronged you?
Dear friend, defunding the police,
dismantling the police, shooting the police, trying to burn the
police, or injuring the police is not the answer, even if they have
wronged you or your loved ones. I speak from experience. Instead, we
are asked to do something very difficult.
In my prayer time, when I was talking to the Lord, what
Romans 13:1-5 says was revealed to me but more than that, what
preceded Romans 13:1-5 became that much more powerful. I hope you
are as convicted by it as I am.
"Never pay back evil for evil. Do things in such a way that
everyone can see that you are honest clear through. Don't quarrel
with anyone. Be at peace with everyone just as much as possible.
Dear friends, never avenge yourself. Leave that to God, for he has
said that he will repay those who deserve it. Don't take the law
into your own hands. Instead, feed your enemy if he is hungry. If he
is thirsty, give him something to drink and you will be "heaping
coals of fire on his head." In other words, he will feel ashamed of
himself for what he has done to you. Don't let evil get the upper
hand, but conquer evil by doing good." (Romans 12:17-21, TLB)
The black person that told me, 'It is your people that did
this' on 9-11 because he assumed I was a Middle Eastern Muslim, was
really touched because I did not want him fired. The black manager
that asked me, 'If I had a bomb in my bag' knew that I did not rat
him out but a Black woman told HR because she heard it.
What is so significant about the verses above is these
verses precede Romans 13:1-5. We have chapters and verses but in the
original manuscripts, there were no chapters and verses. It was all
together. Wow!
"Never pay back evil for evil..never avenge yourselves...for
the policeman' are all in Romans 12:17-Romans 13:1-5.
People want to avenge the police and pay them back but that
is not the way of the Lord. Lord Jesus help us! Justice will come in
the Lord's time!
May you live your life as a child of the Most High even when
dealing with the police who are not all bad!
"Police Offer Lawfulness In Countries
Everywhere!" (P.O.L.I.C.E)"/"How should you handle P.O.L.I.C.E who
have wronged you?"
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, there is so much turmoil
happening in the world. There are police who are supposed to serve
and protect but the evil one has corrupted them and they have
brought death and pain to those around them. Oh Lord intervene! We
ask you to comfort those who are mourning the loss of their loved
ones. We pray for the police who desire to serve and protect all
races, ethnicities with love that they would not be punished because
of the sin of few. Oh Lord please intervene and help. Help us to
follow you Oh Lord and Your Word even when it is not easy. Thank you
for being there for us. Please protect Black lives and all those who
come in contact with the police. Please Lord Jesus intervene. We
depend on you to help. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
May the Lord Jesus guide you in
His love leading you! Amen!
No matter what you feel in your heart,
know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To
make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him
as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the
Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into
prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel
of John or Gospel of
Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord
show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to
help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches
the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our
crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help by His
grace alone!
