Editors Note: Two of the students interviewed for the Campus Crusade for Christ event held at the Northway Community Church - Oakland during JESUS WEEK, regarding Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt's inspiring talk, are members of the Pittsburgh Standard 2008 editorial board. PART I:

Coach Dave Wannstedt of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team came to speak with more than 100 students at an event sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ in collaboration with Northway Community Church-Oakland. on the night of Thurs, March 27, 07 when West Virginia University (WVU) Mountaineers were playing against Xavier Musketeers in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA basketball tournament.

It was the Pitt football team coached by Wannstedt that upset the WVU Mountaineers 13-9 in the last game of the season, spoiling WVU’s hopes to play in the national championship game.

Victories were important to Wannstedt but not as important as his faith and daily walk with the Lord Jesus Christ in his life. It is not victories in professional sports, college sports, or the money & accolades that come with it that have motivated Wannstedt to continue to coach but his faith and love for Jesus Christ so he could influence the lives of the players he has been given the blessing of coaching so they can also experience Christ's abundant life!

Wannstedt shared that with all the victories in his life as a player and coach, it still left a void in his heart until he found victory in Jesus Christ.

Wannstedt also shared that he is upfront about his faith with the players that want to play for him and he introduces them to the director of ministry encouraging the players to get involved in Bible studies, prayer times, etc. Some players are happy to hear him and other players are not.

Students from different universities came to see Wannstedt share how his faith in the Lord Jesus impacts his life and those around him especially his marriage to his wife of many years. Wannstedt did not leave without mentioning their backyard brawl rival West Virginia making the crowds laugh!
