Review of New DVD Releases!
Ramesh C. Reddy Ocean's 12 (2004) Picture Source: http://www.imdb.com Main Cast: Plot Review of Ocean's 12 released on DVD/Video: Ocean’s 12 is a comical thriller involving a heist to get almost 200 million dollars. In Ocean’s 11, the guy whose money was stolen comes back and asks for that money with interest else the entire team would die in fourteen days! The team gets back together to pull off another heist to get that money but runs into trouble from an elusive thief they call Night Fox. Into the mix of trouble, comes a detective who will go to any length to catch the thieves. The detective makes it her duty to catch thieves whose own dad was a thief. Content Review: The movie is rated PG-13 for some language! It also uses the name of Jesus Christ twice where unnecessary. "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. (Exodus 20:7, NIV) Spiritual Implications: In Ocean’s 11, the team stole 160 million dollars and split it amongst themselves. But now in Ocean’s 12, most of their money is gone and they have got themselves into more trouble for stealing. The movie does make you see the fall out that comes from dishonest gain. “You shall not steal.” (Exodus 20:15, NIV) “Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.” (Proverbs 13:11, NIV) The movie also makes us realize that children will not necessarily follow in their parent’s footsteps if their parents are bad. In the movie, we see that the parent of the child who becomes a detective was actually a thief. This however did not make her a thief but she became a person who wanted to put a stop to thieves. She chose to become someone who tries to do good things! In the same way, just because our parents may be of a different religion does not mean, we have to be of the same religion our parents are if it is wrong. We have the free will to choose the Absolute Truth. We are not what our parents have become but can be who God wants us to be if we choose to follow His paths. This however does not mean that parents and children cannot follow the Absolute Truth at the same time. They can! "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods! (Joshua 24:14-16, NIV) “Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NIV) Questions to Ponder: If you were investigating a crime and find out that it is someone you love behind it, what would you do? If you know pleading guilty to a crime will give you a fulfilling life, would you please guilty to a crime? Why or why not? In the movie, what does the detective do when she finds out about a thief she was in love with? What would you do? Express Your View
