Spiritual Review of "The Detonator"
Ramesh C. Reddy "The Detonator" (2006)
http://www.amazon.com
Main Cast: 'The Detonator' is a spy thriller that will keep you guessing where the conspiracy is coming from. Sunni Griffith (played by Wesley Snipes) is a former CIA agent who has to protect a reluctant witness Nadia Cominski (played by the beautiful Silvia Colloca) from an arms dealer who will go to any length to get to her. Content Review: It is Rated-R for language, violence, and brief nudity! The nudity occurs in a dance club where music is playing. Until the music stopped, I had to turn my head away It is not a movie I would recommend if it is not edited for television or if you do not have a DVD or VCR that cuts out profanity and nudity scenes. The F-word was used 28 times, the S-word was used 6 times, and the BS-word was used 2 times. It had scenes of nudity in the club at the 1:05:21 – 1:06:33 mark when the music stopped. The language reminded me of a verse in Scripture that speaks out against profanity. “Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” (Ephesians 4:29, NLT) The club reminded me about the wrongness of being naked in public or seeing others naked. "At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they strung fig leaves together around their hips to cover themselves." (Genesis 3:7, NLT) "Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, walked backward into the tent, and covered their father's naked body. As they did this, they looked the other way so they wouldn't see him naked." (Genesis 9:23, NLT) "And you may not approach my altar by steps. If you do, someone might look up under the skirts of your clothing and see your nakedness. " (Exodus 20:26, NLT) "How terrible it will be for you who make your neighbors drunk! You force your cup on them so that you can gloat over their nakedness and shame." (Habakkuk 2:15, NLT) Spiritual Insights: When I was watching the movie, I saw the bad guys who killed others die. This reminded me of the Bible verse on the penalty for murder. "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.” (Genesis 9:6, NIV) It is a government agent that kills of the murderers. This reminded me of a verse in on capital punishment. “But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” (Romans 13:4, NIV) All of the killings occur because of the greed for money. This reminded me of a verse on the love of money. “Those who love money will never have enough. How absurd to think that wealth brings true happiness!” (Ecclesiastes 5:10, NLT) "They will throw away their money, tossing it out like worthless trash. It won't buy their deliverance in that day of the LORD's anger. It will neither satisfy nor feed them, for their love of money made them stumble into sin.” (Ezekiel 7:19, NLT) “For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10, NLT) “For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.” (2 Timothy 3:2, NLT) “Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5, NLT) Questions to Ponder: Why do people betray other people? How does it make you feel when you know someone betrayed you? How did Jesus handle betrayal? What is money to you? What is your opinion on capital punishment? What does the Bible say regarding capital punishment? When have you ever given money prominence over anyone or anything? What was the result? When people are so money-minded things unravel sooner or later. Why do you think so? |
