Editors Note: This devotional was originally sent through email on  Mon, 26 April 1999 12:01:36 -0500 (EST) to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) students and others who wanted to receive daily devotionals at the University of Pittsburgh while I was serving at IVCF! It is being published for the first time on Pittsburgh Standard today with any revisions ITALICIZED.

SCRIPTURE:
"God is our refuge and strength. A present help in times of trouble." Psalm 46:1)

What are the troubles you are facing?

More than likely many are facing the troubles of getting through finals week. God will be your help. Don't be discouraged. In the time you have, give your best to the Lord in your studies and allow Him to take care of the rest. He will be your refuge and strength. This does not mean He promises to give us straight A's etc. He does promise to get us through! May you rely upon the Savior!

Others could be facing family situations, financial situations, job/career situations, health situations,etc where we are bombarded with so much we need to take care of.

With so much work to do, it can be tempting to ignore spending time with the Lord. Please don't allow anything to crowd out your time with the Lord. Give Him your time and allow Him to speak to you and lead you! We live in a world filled with darkness. Only the Light of the world can save us from this darkness. Jesus is that Light of the World. We cannot find the answers in horoscopes, new age, drugs, alcohol, religion, etc.

Our search will go on.

The world is filled with so much emptiness. People try to fill that emptiness with so many things but God. God wants to fill the emptiness in your heart. He alone has the key to end your searching. He has provided Jesus Christ as the Answer key and this you can come to see.

Jesus wants to be your refuge and strength, a present help in times of trouble. Yes, He does! Oh yes, He does! Thank you Jesus!

Coming to Jesus is not coming to a religion. I do not believe in religion because religion causes more problems. People have done so many things against God's principles in the name of religion. What I believe in is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He set me free from all the bondage I was in. He alone can set each of us free.

We may think everything is going well for us and we do not need Jesus in our lives. But, He alone can fill the void in each of us. I like to think of myself as a follower of Christ than calling myself a Christian. Whether we like to admit it or not, the Lord alone can give us joy for eternity with eternal life.

Whatever is bothering you, whatever pain you are facing, whatever confusion you are in, come to Jesus. Come to Jesus with all your sins, all your guilt. He alone can set you free. That is why He came. If you are searching for the answers to this world's problem the answer can be found in Jesus. He has come to set the world free. But we need to accept what He has done for us and allow Him in our lives.

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, we can search for the answers in everything except you and still come to an emptiness. You showed me that Lord and you continue to show that to so many others. Oh Lord, I thank you for being the world's Absolute Truth. We come to you as we are and ask you to always be part of our lives. We come to you because we know that you alone have the Answer. You are the Answer. We are all filled with so much sin. Our lives have different kinds of pain. When we think we are alright, our prideful hearts think we don't need you! When things maybe going well in our lives we sometimes ignore you. But, I thank you for showing me that I need you. We all do and we are sorry for our sin. You know what we all are facing and we could use your help . We ask thee to change us and be part of our lives daily. We commit ourselves to thee and want to be your follower and have a personal relationship with you. Help us dear Lord. Thank you Jesus so much. We acknowledge you as our Lord and Personal Savior who was raised from the dead. We confess you are Lord. Help us Jesus. Thank you for being in our lives this very moment as we give ourselves to thee. Thank

 If you want to give your life to the Lord and make Him Lord of your life, please don't wait. You can ask Him into your life right now. A Christians' road in life is not easy nor peachy but it is worth it. Belonging to the One who created you and loves you with unconditional love is the one you need to belong too. No matter what you have done or where you have been, the Lord reaches out to you with His loving arms of love. If you have been a Christian and feel like you have gone away from the Lord, you can come back to Him and rededicate your life to Him. He will take you in and love you with unconditional love. Do not let guilt stop you from coming to the Lord. He loves you so much and cares for you! Come, Come to the Lord!

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I do not know everything I need to know about you. But, I heard that you love me so much and you are the Light. You said if I come to you, I will not stay in darkness. I come to you Lord as I am with all my baggage. I ask you to take it all from me and give me a new beginning.  I know all the sins in my life have affected me and I need you now. I am willing to give my life to you and ask you for forgiveness. Please forgive me of my sins and come into my heart. Please make my heart your home. Live in me Jesus and I choose to live for you and serve you the rest of the days of my life. There are certain habitual sins in my life that you alone can help me overcome and I rely upon you. Thank you Jesus. I thank you that you want to be my Lord and Personal Savior. Please be in control of my life. I thank you when you forgive me, you give me a new clean slate and I can have a new beginning.  I confess you as my Lord and Personal Savior and believe in my heart that you died for me and rose again to give me eternal life that I can one day spend eternity with you forever. Thank you Jesus! Thank you, you have heard my prayer and answered me. I belong to you and you will take care of me. Thank you Jesus! In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!

You may have felt something, you may have not, but the important thing to know is that Jesus Christ is in your life! Don't just go by feelings.
