"Supporting the Six Servant Students for SGB Elections"

Ramesh C. Reddy
Publisher

PittsburghStandard.com proudly supports these candidates for SGB:

FOR PRESIDENT: JOE PASQUALICHIO

Joe Pasqualichio of the DRIVEN slate has aspired, acted, and achieved recognition for his work for students.

Issue of Food Service:

We believe his involvement with the food service committee meetings with food service managers whether it was direct or indirect made a huge difference. After Elizabeth Blasi and Pasqualichio came on board amazing changes in food service have occurred too. Students who did not have a salad bar to eat at have it now in Eddies. Students also have a Sushi bar in Cathedral. Before construction, they were able to have the back dining room in Schenley open until 11:00 p.m. because management heeded their voice. Whatever changes students want to see, managers in food service have been very receptive to help bring changes after working with Food Service Committee. Recently food service managers were instrumental in introducing a Smoothie Block for students after talks with the food service committee. When Eddies was closed until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, food service committee working with managers got them to open at 11:00 a.m.

Issue of Elections:

When the debate against ‘elections in booths’ versus ‘online elections’, was raging, Pasqualichio fought against online elections because he wanted students to have the election feeling when they go out to polls and pull the lever among other valid reasons. He lost the vote but he made an impact of how much he cares for the students even if he had to dissent with the majority. We are comfortable that as a president he will fight harder for you!

Issue of Student Needs:

With two years of Board experience and also a business manager overseeing allocations, he can make an excellent president for all the student body and student organizations.

  • He lowered the SGB budget by $15,000 so it can be used to help more student organizations.

  • Projects such as a professor rating system and online book swap were accomplished for you. They can be accessed at www.pickaprof.com

  • He worked to make South Oakland blue safety light and camera.

These are not the only exclusive things Pasqualichio should be credited for. As a board member for 2 terms, he did not let it get to his head but always saw himself as a servant-leader for students.

We are proud to give our support to JOE PASQUALICHIO FOR PRESIDENT of DRIVEN Slate

FOR BOARD:  First vote of support goes to ALLI WINN of DRIVEN Slate

Issue of Food Services:

Enriching your lives whether it be your experience in dining services or your overall safety, Winn cares for you. As a student like yourself,  she has to deal with dining services here on campus too. Rather than complain about the food selection she decided to take a proactive stand rather than a reactive stand by being part of a food service committee to bring you changes that many students already love. A Salad Bar in Eddies which students did not have last year, a Sushi area in Cathedral, and a Smoothie Block in Schenley are because of food service committees desire to see you eat foods that you can be happy about spending your blocks or dining on. Being elected to Board by you she hopes to bring you more changes that you will love as she works with a team committed to meeting your dining needs.

Issue of SAFETY:

She has a noble cause and desire to improve the availability and overall effectiveness of Safe Rider, a campus escort shuttle that picks up students after hours. She wants to make sure no student is ever left behind or stranded in the streets of Oakland because they could not get a ride home. As a student, life is not all about studies but enjoying life safely with friends. For that you need a life outside of academics too. She wants to make sure Safe Rider will be more effective to serve you!

We believe Winn will take these two causes and any other cause that matters to you and represent your needs on board. She is that type of person and will make you proud as your student representative.

FOR BOARD: Second Vote of support goes to SHADY HENIEN of DRIVEN Slate

Issue of Food Services:

Henien closely works with Pasqualichio and Winn to bring the changes you are looking for and some that have already been implemented. We commend him for that.

Issue Unity and Diversity:

What a shame to go throughout your college years and not experience the different multi-cultural events that Pitt student organizations offer for your enjoyment and edification is what Henien believes in. We agree with him because a strong campus community is a unified and diversified campus community. Henien wants to make that more of a reality for you. He hopes to accomplish this by having Bigelow Boulevard closed and every multicultural organization at Pitt to represent their music, food, dance, and culture for your enjoyment and edification. This is a great idea and we believe if elected to Board he will make it a priority for this to happen.

Issue of Mentoring:

Henein will work hard to have upperclassmen be like a big brother or big sister to incoming Freshman so they can become more comfortable in their surroundings and have someone to look up to. We think this is an excellent idea and deserves support. Imagine what life was as a Freshman and think if you would have wanted to have that.

FOR BOARD: Third vote of support goes to JENNIFER ANUKEM of PROVEN SLATE

Issue of Student Recognition

Anukem has proven herself by accomplishing her goals she set forth to do as your student representative on board. She coordinated and implemented the Red Carpet student leadership dinner which recognized student leaders of hundreds of organizations for their work for students. The Red Carpet was a great success and she must be commended for that.

Issue of SGB Accesibility

Anukem has a great idea and desire to make every SGB meeting televised to the students weekly so students will know what is happening in SGB if they cannot make it to a meeting.  We think it is also a great idea for Pitt Radio SGB segment once a week during which a SGB member will take questions from the student body. As an incumbent, we believe she has done her part last semester to serve the student body and will be a positive influence on Board.

FOR BOARD: Fourth vote of support goes to JOHN HELTER of TRADITIONS SLATE

Issue of Servant-Leadership

We believe he is a candidate if elected who will keep SGB accountable to always focus on students and their needs. Students come first for him and he desires to serve you! He always wants SGB to keep two things in mind when they vote or make decisions:

How will this action contribute to campus unity?

Does this decision benefit the students of the University of Pittsburgh and the Pitt Community as a whole?

We believe putting students first is a great idea and he will be a valuable member on board because he will tackle any issue that is not beneficial for you whether it has to do with food services, academics, athletics, allocations, etc.

FOR BOARD:  Fifth vote of support goes to CRAIG DOLSON of TRADITIONS SLATE

Issue of Athletics:

Dolson wants to get back the rivalry in football between Pitt and Penn State. Who has not gone to Pitt or Penn State and has not heard about this fun rivalry that excites the students and there is a sense of community and unity among the student body as they take on Penn State. This is an idea we believe is still possible and as a voice for you, he will work with Athletics to make this a reality.

Issue of Community Service:

We also believe it is an excellent idea of his to want to have students and student athletes working together on projects to benefit the community. This will not only help student give back to the less fortunate but also get to know the athletes on a personal level. When that happens we also believe students will be more interested in going to the games to cheer their fellow friends and athletes on. This is a great idea that will benefit the entire student body!

We are especially excited regarding the DRIVEN slate to work for you!!!

D riven for you, they are on the go

R epresenting your needs, they are Ali, Shady, and Joe

I n Food Committee, worked to get you Salad Bar, Sushi, and Smoothie Block

V aliantly, whatever your cause, to managers and staff, they will walk

E  lecting them to board, you will not regret your vote

N o matter the issue, they will be on the same boat!
