There are many who do not support President Bush’s Supreme Ct nomination of Harriet Miers to replace retiring Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. They feel Miers is not qualified for the job and someone who has already served as a judge should have been chosen.

 When Miers is looked through the eyes of Liberals, they are scared how she might rule on issues such as abortion, euthanasia, Affirmative Action, separation of church and state  to name a few. If Miers was getting heat from the Liberals to the left, she has been getting fire from many Conservatives to the right who are concerned about many of those same issues.

The nation should be willing to give Miers a fair hearing before judging her to be guilty of not being able to preside over important Supreme Ct cases that may come. People who are so worried about the U.S Constitution and whether she will uphold it are not following the U.S. Constitution themselves.

The U.S. Constitution is strong on giving citizens due process and Miers deserves no less. She will get her due process when she appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee during confirmation hearings. It is wrong to judge her guilty even before the hearings begin.

Miers deserves to be seen as innocent until proven guilty. In other words, liberals or conservatives should not be jumping to call her unqualified without hearing how much she really knows about law cases. Anyone who really cares to find out whether she is qualified or not should hear the hearings!

Pres. Bush deserves to pick who he believes would take the Supreme Ct in the right direction. He has put his confidence in Miers to help be part of a Supreme Ct he hopes will not legislate from the bench but interpret the law.  Pres. Bush knows more about Miers than we will know!

If you are Liberal, most of you will naturally not trust the president but if you are a Conservative, you should remember that it moral push for Bush was one of the factors that helped him win the election. In other words, Bush knows his base and that the Evangelical Christians helped put him above Sen. John Kerry. He is not about to disappoint his base by appointing someone random to the highest court.

It is not just Evangelical Christians that helped him to come to office. His support was from all demographic, lifestyle, and geographic groups. He is the president of the United States whether people like it or not. He hopes to have an Associate Justice who will do the right thing in the Supreme Ct rather than making it another activist court that legislates.

Miers mind can be mesmerizing than anyone knows. Her dissent or majority opinion could be as brilliant as some of the justices that have already served on the highest court or continue to serve. Let us give her a chance.

The bottom line is no matter who Pres. Bush picked there would have been opposition.
