Bush should not use war as a 'Wag the dog tactic' to win re-election!

This Article about the US needing to go to war disturbs me. Attacking Afghanistan for harboring terrorists will not get rid of terrorists. If anything it will give their leaders more ammunition with which to rally American hatred, and as a result more terrorism.

If it were simply evil people who wanted to hurt people for the fun of it perhaps it would be easier for me to believe that war is the answer.

What people don’t understand however, is that there people, like those of the Crusades, believe that the supreme being of their lives agrees with and believes in what they are doing. They give their lives for these causes. All the bombs in the world are not going to change their minds. If you kill one, you invent a martyr whose memory will fuel 10 more.

The terrorists don't reevaluate their positions when one of them is killed. They mourn, say he died for the cause, and fight harder. People need to understand this in order to understand that you CANNOT fight a war on terrorism.

When has terrorism not existed? Can we magically make it go away because we have been directly affected?

If you bomb Afghanistan, and they decide not to harbor terrorists we are not only, establishing ourselves even further as the worlds’ police, we really aren’t doing any good. Lots of countries would harbor terrorists.

Will we bomb them too? And if the country bans terrorists, are they going to magically disappear? And if we declare war of terrorism, shouldn’t we declare war on China for terrorizing their people?

You can find some sort of terrorism in every country, should we fight them all? Should we fight ourselves, declare war on Maryland for having a sniper who is terrorizing people or perhaps just declare war on him or all of the states that have every had serial killers or bombers?

The nature of this situation will not allow for it to be a "swift" solution. It will be long and drawn and leave lots of people questioning the US' role in the world. In addition, there is enough politics in this situation to wash any noble causes that might have been intended out the window.

Mr. Bush has increased the worlds’ hatred for us through his cocky brash statements. He condemns countries that have weapons of mass destruction (as if this country isn’t one of the leaders in these weapons).

He says almost every country in the Middle East is somehow connected to the Al Quida and must therefore be fought, and he makes many direct insults to the UN and other countries for not believing in his war on the world in the name of "freedom".

Principles have been lost in the politics. Bush is mobilizing troops as if we were at war... what happened to the checks and balances? Why is it that he can do this without Congress?

American people are so passionate about innocents dying that they are not focusing clearly and allowing our freedoms and rights to be stripped away by numerous legislation that’s being passed all of this in the name of freedom!

War is not pretty and do we really want to go for God knows how long, to fight a blind battle?

So that George W. can get another term, maybe the legal way this time?

War isn’t pretty. People die. My father is in the military and I am biased. I will not deny it. I believe in everything he believes in as a man in the military, but i do not believe in a political random bombing of places we don’t like in the name of freedom.

I agree that sometimes fighting is the only way to secure what we hold dear, but THIS war, is not the answer, and i believe it will do no good.
