Fighting for
freedom from foes of flesh!

It is ironical that in today’s
world man and woman with all kind of freedom attained for him or herself
which includes freedom of speech, of expression, liberty etc is actually
caught up in certain chains which tightly hold him/her internally. These
chains may be habits like smoking, drinking, gambling, love of money
and also certain attitudes like anger, rage, malice, envy, hatred,
jealousy, impure thoughts, tongues that curse and speak lies and so on.
Outwardly we might appear to be
free but inwardly we may be struggling hard with certain attitudes or
habits that hold us. For example a person may be free but he/she might
be a chain smoker, which shows that despite all the outward freedom
available for him/her, he/she is actually a slave to sin. This captivity
is not outwardly but inwardly.
The Word of God says,
"Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up
for evil; live as servants of God." (1 Peter 2:16, NIV)
The Word of God also says,
"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do
not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one
another in love." (Galatians 5:13, NIV)
If we obey these commands then we
can be people who are free in the real sense of the word i.e. free both
inwardly and outwardly.
