SCRIPTURE:
"But as the man went
on his way he began to shout the good news that he was healed; as a
result, such throngs soon surrounded Jesus that he couldn't publicly
enter a city anywhere, but had to stay out in the barren wastelands. And
people from everywhere came to him there" (Mark 1:45, NIV)
Observations:
I asked myself what did the man healed from
leprosy do?
As the man went on his way presumably to
the Jewish priest, he disobeyed Jesus and began to shout the good news
that he was healed when Jesus specifically and sternly told him not to
speak to anyone along the way.
I asked myself what
were the results of the man's disobedience and the significance of that?
1.
Because of the man's disobedience such throngs surrounded Jesus.
2.
Jesus couldn't publicly enter a city anywhere.
3.
Jesus had to stay in the barren wastelands.
4.
People from everywhere had to come to
Jesus.
Because of the man's disobedience it affected Jesus'
movement publicly and the people from everywhere had to come to Jesus
instead of Jesus being able to go to them because Jesus had to stay in
the barren wastelands.
When Jesus told him sternly not to speak to anyone along the way,
Jesus had his reasons.
Jesus knew that the man was excited that he was
healed and wanted to share it with everyone but Jesus did not want him
to share it yet until the Jewish priest was notified and an offering was
made to be proof of his healing. But, the man either forgot Jesus'
commands in excitement or decided to do his own thing.
The man healed of leprosy should have obeyed but instead he shares the
good news of his healing by shouting that he has been healed. Now, by
doing that even though he was sharing a good news, he shared it at the
inappropriate time causing problems to Jesus and the people who needed
Jesus. This shows me that sharing something good when it is done at the
wrong time or in disobedience will still have negative effects. What the
man shared in itself was not bad but how he went about doing it and the
timing was bad.
Implications:
I saw important implications for my own life
here. Just because I have good news that I am excited about, I should
not share it with others unless it is the appropriate time given by the
Lord. This is exactly how Jesus wanted the man healed of leprosy to
proceed but the man went his own way creating problems for Jesus and the
townspeople. My actions should not cause pain and suffering for others
because even good news shared can affect others when it is given in a
selfish manner and timing. This passage also shows me the consequences
of disobedience especially to the lives of others because of even one
person's disobedience to the Lord. In this case, Jesus and the
townspeople were inconvenienced because of the man who got his
healing from Jesus and went his own way. This is so sad but I am guilty
of that too.
My disobedience of the Lord has had ripple effects in the lives of
those I love especially in the area of marriage. After being single for
many years, Jesus blessed me with Chandraleela, my darling wife who is
a PLUS in my life: Prayerful, Loving, Understanding, and Supportive.
Through His Word, Jesus has shown me how I am to care for my wife and
love her. I am to love her as Jesus loved the church. Jesus' love for
the church made Jesus sacrifice His life for the sake of His church. In
the same way, I should be willing to sacrifice my own life for Chandra's
sake loving her dearly. That is a daily challenge to give up my own way
for the sake of Chandra's as long as it is in line with God's will. I am
reminded of what Pastor Josh kept
reiteratting to me: Listen, Listen, Listen to your wife. I
need to listen and love her as described in 1 Corinthians 13. But, I have not done
that always hurting my wife. In the process, those around her can get
hurt too indirectly which can have ripple effects just as the man's
actions had ripple effects in the life of Jesus and the townspeople. I
don't want that for my wife and those around her. But, it is not just
limited to a marriage relationship but all aspects of our lives. Our
disobedience to the Lord's stern commands can hurt others and we need to
remember that. I know as we seek the Lord and put Him first casting our
own way aside, He will take care of the rest.
One day my wife was very upset with me
because of what I did. Instead
of reacting back negatively, for 2 hrs I helped her where she needed
help the most without any words. My words were prayers to the Lord Jesus
to make me a better husband. Next thing I know, she is hugging me and
giving me so many cheek kisses. That was her way of showing how much it
meant to her for what I did. I
felt like those 2 hrs were the hrs that my wife felt so cared for
without me saying any words. Many times words are not the right thing to
say but our actions alone speak louder than words. This is something I
have forgotten many times just as the man who was healed of leprosy
forgot or deliberately went his own way. The action was supposed to be
to show himself to the priest and offer a sacrifice as proof that he was
healed but instead he shouts about his good healing nullifying what he
was originally supposed to do. I don't want my actions to cause pain for
others and neither should you.
It is important to realize what we do in our
private lives when no one is looking can affect our public ministry or
the lives of others!
I ask you now dear friend, what do your
actions C.A.U.S.E in life?
Dear friend, our actions can either glorify the Lord or bring
dishonor to the Lord. Our actions can make people want to know more
about Jesus or they can turn people away from Jesus thinking if this is
what Christianity is all about, I don’t want to have any part in it.
Sometimes the right actions done at the wrong times can cause problems
too. There was nothing wrong with the man letting others know that he
was healed but the problem was the timing and the disobedience of the
man. Jesus specifically told him not to speak to anyone else. The man
decides to go his own way anyway.
This too brings to mind how ungrateful we can be many times. Jesus heals
the man and then the man goes right ahead and disobeys Jesus. We are
guilty of that too. Jesus does so many things for us and yet we find
ways to disobey him just because it pleases us to do what we want. This
only causes heart ache for the Lord. Lord, please forgive us.
We have the opportunity to let the Lord be glorified and not cause grief
to the Lord by our actions, so let us hold on to the faith and love, the
Lord Jesus has given us and hope in Him as we travel the journey of life
remembering our actions affect those around us.
This election season, will our vote cause the
unborn children more agonizing pain and death or will our vote
promote candidates who are the voice for the unborn. Whether you
identify yourself as a Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc, your
vote matters and you have the opportunity to continue the
protections the unborn have enjoyed but they still need your help.
The saddest thing I have heard is that one of the tickets is the
most pro-abortion ticket in the history of the United States :( May
your actions protect the unborn first and foremost!

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus I thank you so much because of how much you love us. You
love us so much that you give us commandments for our own good. Lord
there are times your commandments are hard to follow because they seem
like they deprive us of the fun we want but Lord deep inside I know you
know what is best for us at all times. I know you will never ask us to
do anything that will not be for our good in the long run. Forgive us
Lord and help us Oh God of our Salvation for the glory of your Name and
deliver us and provide us with your help always for the glory of your
Name to do what you want us to do. Thank you so much Lord Jesus that you have provided atonement for
our sins for your Name's sake and have given us your Word. We bring our
sacrifice of praise unto the House of the Lord. We are sorry when we
cause pain in other people's lives because of our actions. We are also
sorry when we do not thank you first. I thank you Jesus for forgiving us and
answering our prayers. Thanks we can come to you. In Your Name I Pray
Jesus! Amen!
Lord Jesus,
You are my all in
all. You are my Prince of Peace, Rock, Savior, and Friend. You are my
Holy Father guiding me through to live a life of righteousness, holy
righteousness. Oh God, I need you more than ever. I need to feel your
hands around me holding me tight. I need your love to surround me so
that you can glow in my life. Help me please Jesus. I desire in your
presence. Thank you for guiding me to live a life of righteousness. Oh
God you love me more than ever. You hear my voice when I cry out to you.
When I seek your face, you fill me up. You are my all in all. Thank you
Jesus so much for your help no matter what I face, your grace is
available and you take my case. Thank you for hearing us and answering
us. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! AMEN! (Most of the prayer is from a
vineyard song called “All in All”)
May the Lord Jesus guide you in
His love leading you! Amen!
No matter what you feel in your heart,
know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To
make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him
as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the
Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into
prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel
of John or Gospel of
Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord
show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to
help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches
the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our
crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help by His
grace alone!
